A: The sun is more like the fuel source. The mechanism that drives the changes in weather are complex and extremely interesting. Bodies of water make moisture available. The sun drives this moisture into the air. Wind is created by parts of our planet being warmer then others. The fact that the planet rotates stirs the pot up. The result is a marvelously complex system of ever changing patterns.

We are just beginning to understand how this whole thing works. There are to be cycles also. Short cycles of as little as 11 years have been scene. Cycles as long as 100K years are also being observed. The current warming we have seen since 1979 is one example, as is the cooling of the 70's.
