African elephants live in grassy regions south of the Sahara Desert. So, living in the desert it is very hot and dry. It hardly ever rains. But when it does everything is brought to life. These elephants travel far to get to watering wholes. It is a very harsh environment!!
Savannah elephants tend to live in hot, dry areas. Forest elephants tend to live in jungle-like areas. Elephants are generally tropical; that is, they live between 23 deg N and 23 deg S latitude, usually towards the middle of that range - the equatorial zone.
There are grasslands elephants and smaller forest elephants. Cameroon has both.
The African elephant can be found over most of Africa on the wide open plains and in the jungles unlike the Asian elephant there has never been a great deal of success domesticating them and making them a part of primary industry. so today the environment that used to support the African elephant is increasingly being taken over by farms leading to the slaughter of many of them.
