Depending on the shop, what they encounter inside the engine and your geographical area, I'd guess somewhere between $500 and $1,000. A shop should be able to give you a ballpark figure, but it's the unexpected that always gets you.
If they can just remove the head, mill it and put it all back together, it will be toward the low end. If the valve and guides are worn and/or stem seals are damaged, and if the water pump is failing, and if the timing chain and tensioners are worn... the price goes up.
Selling price of a 1996 Saturn?
I shopped around Charlotte, NC. The best price I got in a reputable shop was $400. Mine is a 1993 Maxima GXE, 3.0 litre. Quite a shock for replacing a valve cover gasket.
This will depend on what type of gasket you need and what it is for. I came up with .44 cents as an average starting price. www.gasketstogo.com

The price varies for a head gasket by location for a 1991 Ford Aerostar van. The approximate price for the head gasket if you are going to do all repairs yourself is approximately $80.00.
