The face value of One Shilling is, One Shilling.

There were 12 Pennies in a Shilling.

At the conversion to decimal currency in Australia on the 14th of February, 1966, a Shilling converted to Ten cents.

If you are asking this question because you have a pile of old shillings you want to know the value of then I suggest you be aware that that a coin can have 3 types of value.

Face Value - in this case 10c

Intrinsic value - in this case $3 to $4 dollars

Collector value - in this case $2 to $40,000+

I suggest you read this article on Valuing an Australian Shilling (see url below) and seek some further advice if unsure

Whatever you do don't take them to the bank and cash them in!

An Australian Shilling was a coin of silver appearance which was first minted in London in 1910 and last minted in Melbourne in 1963.

There were 12 pence in One Shilling, and 20 Shillings in One Pound.

From 1910 to 1945, their composition was 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper. They had a milled edge, weighed 5.65 grams and were 23.5 mm in diameter.

From 1946 to 1963, their composition was 50% silver, 40% copper, 5% zinc and 5% nickel. They had a milled edge, weighed 5.65 grams and were 23.5 mm in diameter.

They were progressively withdrawn from circulation after the introduction of Decimal Currency on the 14th of February, 1966.

In modern currency, a Shilling was the equivalent of 10 cents.

All Australian Coins have the reigning Monarch on the obverse. From 1910 to 1936, the Shilling had the Australian "Coat of Arms" on the reverse with the words ONE SHILLING around the top and the year at the bottom.

From 1937 to 1963, the Shilling had a Merino sheep on the reverse with the words AUSTRALIA around the top and SHILLING - YEAR at the bottom.

There were no Shillings issued in 1919, 1923, 1929 to 1930, 1932, 1937, 1945, 1947, 1949 and 1951.

The very rarest Australian Shilling is the 1937 pattern which was not released into general circulation, the rare Shillings are 1915, 1915H, 1921 and 1933, and the 1911, 1912, 1914, 1924, 1939 and 1940 coins are considered to be scarce.

From a coin collectors perspective, Australian Shillings, depending on year, condition and method of minting, can be worth anything from $1 to $350,000 AUD.

Please note that since the Shilling is part of a redundant or obsolete currency, it no longer has an "exchange rate" with other currencies.
