Many people fear alcohol because of it's effects on the brain. If a person is drunk, and tries to drive, they are much more likely to be in a car accident that a sober driver. Also, I fear alcohol because of the effect it has had on my family, it has pretty much destroyed my relationship with my dad, and I still have 7 years that I have to live with him, unless my parents get a divorce. So, maybe the person who you are asking about has bad alcohol experiences in their family, or know a person who has an alcohol problem.
