It is against the law in Nova Scotia to use a hand-held cell phone or text-message while driving. This has been the law since 2008. You can use a hand-held cell phone if it is an emergency, and using the hands-free function on a cell phone is also still allowed. The fine for using a hand-held cell-phone or text-messaging while driving is $169.91 (first offence).

Don't use cellphone while driving ! Edit: Absolutely agree with the first answer. In the UK it's ILLEGAL to use a cellphone while driving. The current penalty is 6 points on your licence and £60 fine - for a first offence. You CAN lose your licence for repeat offences. WHY would you be using a mobile when driving anyway - If you're operating a vehicle, your SOLE responsibility should be complete concentration on the act of driving NOT using a mobile phone ! People DIE because drivers see their mobile phone as more important than paying attention to the road !
A violation for talking on a cell phone while driving in NY carries a maximum fine up to $100.00. The judge has the discretion to dismiss it,reduce it to something less, or fine you from $1.00 to $100.00. In addition, there will traffic court costs in addition to the fine.

Depending on what country you are in when you are caught, if you are not using a hands-free phone you may be fined and/or have an endorsement or points on your driving licence. In the UK it's a £60 fine and three points. If you cause an accident then the penalty will increase, and may include a lengthy prison sentence. It is reckoned that driving whilst using a phone is as hazardous as driving whilst drunk. Using a hands-free phone has little change in this risk, as your concentration is still distracted from the road. As a motorcyclist I often see drivers holding a phone to one ear and as a result not looking to that side when they are manoeuvring or pulling out into my path. Similarly, pedestrians with a phone clamped to their head are likely to step into the road without looking round.
there are absolutely NO advantages by using a mobile phone while driving, it only causes the driver to be distracted that is why it is against the law in many provinces and states, if you are caught the fine is quite substantial. Use a hands =free device is you must talk on the phone while driving.
car starts but shut off while driving
