The cylinders are numbered from front to rear: 1-3-5-7 on the driver's side and 2-4-6-8 on the passenger's side the firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. Number one is the point on the cap furthest forward.
1-5-3-6-2-4 [from my Jeep manual... I own an '84 also].
The front end from a 1986 Jeep CJ7 will not directly fit on a 1991 YJ. Because of small design differences, the front ends are not compatible without several modifications.
