The first course of action should be to place pressure on the bleeding to slow or stop it. Make sure emergency medical services have been summoned and continue to provide pressure on the wound until they arrive. If you cannot apply pressure to a wound because of a foreign object (i.e. a piece of glass), apply pressure just above and just below the wound (but still cover the wound area with gauze).
Step1-Pain sensors are triggered that a cut has happened.
Step2-Blood and Platelets clot the wound.
Step3-A scab forms.
Step4-Over time the scab will disappear.
Note: For large wounds, such as a shotgun wound, or dog bite will not have this process and require hospitalization.
If someone has severe bleeding that can't be stopped then you want to apply pressure on the artery above the wound to control bleeding.

That all depends on how much the patient is bleeding. If they are bleeding really bad then you would have to stitch, staple, or glue the patient's wound up after cleaning the blood off first. Now if the patient is bleeding but not loosing a lot of blood, then you would clean the wound and around the wound and then put a band-aid on the wound.
