First line treatment for any bleeding is direct pressure of the wound. Depending on the injury site (finger vs. femur for instance) this may not be possible.
1. Direct pressure - Push on the wound to try to stop the bleeding
2. Elevate the wound - try to get the wound above the level of the heart
3. Pressure with a bandage (instead of just a hand)
4. Pressure point - Press and hold the artery proximal to the injure (i.e. if the wrist is bleeding, then you hold the artery in the upper arm)
5. Tourniquet - Last resort tie something around the limb (not the neck tho...duh) a limb can be revived hours after a tourniquet has been applied. HOWEVER IF YOU APPLY A TOURNIQUET DO NOT REMOVE IT. You have been warned.
Add Pressure. Cover. and if it's bad enough for a trip to the hospital then keep pressure and keep it covered until you arrive.

You do not get injured. If you do have wounds and bleeding, use the proper first aid rules.

Tourniquets are useful first-aid tools to control bleeding.
First aid is a group of actions that need to be taken during an emergency. It shows you how to help somebody who is choking, not breathing, bleeding, and having other threatening issues. Learning first aid can help you save a life.
heres a little thing to help you remember. check the breathing, stop the bleeding, protect the wound, treat for shock. this is used in the military for first aid.
Signs and symptoms that someone needs first aid vary greatly. If someone has fallen, pain somewhere in the body can mean that first aid is needed. If someone is laying on the floor and not responding, is bleeding from a cut, choking on food, or a host of other things, it is a sign that first aid is needed. First aid can be anything from putting a band aid on a minor cut to giving CPR. In order to know what first aid is needed for what sign or symptom, first aid training is available.
If it is a minor cut, and not to much bleeding, we give first aid. If first aid kit is available, we clean the wound with spirit then put an aseptic (sterlized) plaster or film-tape. If the wound is severe and bleeding continues, we press on the wound, and call for medical help!
