∙ 12y agoHalloween, or more correctly, All Hallows' Eve, was first celebrated by the Scottish in the 16th century. Centuries earlier, though, Gaelic pagans celebrated a festival called Samhain, which gave thanks for a good harvest and mourned the dead that passed in the previous year. Halloween as we know it borrows many of it's roots from the festival of Samhain.
