  • Theory of Binary; today's computer language 1840 AD
  • Differential analyzer (analog computers) c.1928 AD
  • Zuse series (Z Series computers); these were relay driven, binary logic computers, with memory and memory states; first designed in Germany (secret military use) 1936 - first fully working model 1938
  • Model K; bell labs 1937 - built without knowledge of Zuse, same type of computer (Model K for built on the Kitchen Table)
  • ENIAC - 30 tons, 18,000 vacuum tubes, could add and subtract (electronically) 5,000 times per second - 1945
  • CSIRAC- first electronic computer that could play music - 1949
  • Ferranti Mark 1 - first use of magnetic media to store information 1951
  • Microcode / Firmware; introduced 1954
  • Bi-polar transistor, invented in 1947, replaces vacuum tubes in computers 1955
  • First "Disk Drive" (RAMAC) introduced in 1956
  • The first "Integrated Circuit" (micro-chip) - 1958
  • Intel 4004, Texas Instruments TMS-1000 and CADC: Microprocessor is created - 1971
  • Intel 8008 - 8 bit processor introduced - 1972
  • Intel 8080 - 1974
  • IBM 5100 - Business computer (desktop) 1975
  • Commodore PET - 1977 (first computer advertised for personal use)
  • IBM PC (Personal Computer) introduced - August 12 1981; this is the first time an open architecture computer is introduced to market (see where we are today).
