Lubec, ME is east of Eastport, ME (which likes to claim it's the first), but you'll find that there's a peninsula south of South Lubec which justs out into the Atlantic and so will actually be the first spot for the sun to shine on.

∙ 13y agoThe most eastern locations of the continental US are in Maine, and high hills on the coast are the first to see the sunrise. The US territory in the Western Hemisphere that first sees the sunrise is Point Udall on St. Croix, in the US Virgin Islands.
However, the US territory of Guam is advertised as the location "where America's day begins." Guam is near longitude 145° E, on the western side of the International Date Line (unlike Alaska's Aleutian chain which is gerrymandered to the east side). The US also claims Wake Island, farther east at 166° E, which is only occupied by civilian contractors of the Department of Defense. Either of these Pacific locations begins its day earlier than the continental US.
