This usually takes a shorter period of time than the AOS. However make sure that there is no 3 or 10 year bar for the alien who may have overstayed his visa or violated the immigration regulations as this may jeopodaize the case and the process may take longer.

But I believe that if it is very hard for a US citizen to marry an illegal alien in the US (because of all the paperwork and time that it takes and the legth of time, one year or more. That's why it seems to me that it would be even more difficult for a permanent resident alien to marry an illegal alien, but perhaps not imposible-- perhaps.
