Horses mainly eat grass when they are in a field, but it isn't very filling.
When in a Stable, you usually feed them Hay, Chaff or Oats. You can also use carrots, apples, sugar lumps, polo mints, etc for treats. It's a good idea to give your horse treats from time to time, but make sure you never give them too many.
