What is the foot health practitioner course like at the SMAE institute?

The qualification that graduates achieve will only qualify them to work in the private sector and not in the NHS. They will be unregulated by the Health Professions Council and not able to use the title "Chiropodist". The title "Foot Health Practitioner" is not a protected Title and can be used by anyone regardless of training levels. Anyone taking this course must realise that the set-up costs to work as an FHP are extensive and it could take up to 5 years to build up a business, especially as the UK is now experiencing a recession. The student will have to finance themselves during that time. As there are now courses that train foot care persons within 2 weeks it is worthwhile asking how easy it will be to earn a living in an area that is saturated with this type of practitioner.

Has anyone trained at the SMAE institute for FHPs?
Please help me gain an insight into this course, i would appreciate any feedback people may have that have completed the SMAE course for foot health professionals. Hi, I completed the course recently and it can be heavy going, especially if you work full time. The best advice i can give is that if you are serious about setting up as an FHP is whatever financial figures they give for set up costs, expect to double it then add the cost of sustaining yourself for the first 12 months of businesss. There is a lot of competition out there and you have to market yourself brilliantly if you're going to stand a chance of making a living out of this.
