A workspace can include more than one open workbook. Saving it means that when you open the workspace all of those workbooks will open. That is useful when you have several workbooks that you usually open together, rather than having to open them individually.
Workspace is the place where all the bricks, scripts, and etc. are. The Workspace is the Parent. If you are a person who is great at scripting, or even just an average script maker, then you use Workspace very often to let the function know where you want it to come from, which is, the Workspace. In general, Workspace is used as a "group" to gather bricks, and it is vital to scripting.

There is no function of that name in Excel. There is a function called VLOOKUP which stands for Vertical Lookup, and is probably what you mean.
