Seeds on a tree are generally inside of some fruit or blossom. When these fruits or flowers grow they can be pollinated by bees or birds or fall and have a chance to grow where they land. The point is survival; without seeds, the plant (tree) would grow, live out it's life, eventually die and would have produced nothing to keep the species alive.
