Anatomy James said:Technically they dont exist. A ganglion is a collection of neuronal cell bodies in the peripheral nervous system. A collection of these cell bodies in the central nervous system is sometimes mistakenly called a ganglion but is actually correctly termed a nucleus.
Just C. Urious: The Cerebral Ganglion is the brain of an earthworm
Ganglia perform the role of a brain in some animals-arthropods and worms are two examples. They are masses of nerve tissue joined to various nerves and other sensory organs.
A Collection of nerve cell bodies located outside the Central Nervous System.
they transmit nerve pulse activity so nerve cells can 'talk' to each other.
a knotlike mass of nerve tissue found outside the brain or spinal cord
A ganglion is a mass of nerve tissue existing outside the central nervous system. (Dictionary.com) If you're using a textbook, there's usually a glossary in the back, which gives definitions.
If I'm not mistaken, the DRG is part of the PNS in spite of the fact that within it exists a full neuron soma.
A ganglion is a description of cluster or collection of nerve cells OUTSIDE the central nervous system (or you can say that it is part of the peripheral nervous system). The brain is part of the central nervous system.
No, ganglion cysts are not dangerous at all. (I have a ganglion cyst in my wrist).
medical term: Ganglion Cyst
i have a ganglion cyst in my wrist, i had pain in my wrist occasionally and it hurt to move or push down on my wrist. i then noticed a lump one day and found out it was a ganglion. my ganglion cyst only hurts ocassionalyy
Unipolar neurons are found in ganglion outside the CNS.
Postganglionic neuron cell body lies outside the CNS in an autonomic ganglion
If I'm not mistaken, the DRG is part of the PNS in spite of the fact that within it exists a full neuron soma.

In the peripheral nervous system, which is outside the central nervous system (CNS), collections of nerve cell bodies are called ganglia.
You have a really good question. Studying the nervous system can be overwhelming and quit confusing. Preganglionic Neurons come from the CNS to the Ganglion ( mass of neuron cell bodies and dendrites) and Postganglionic neurons leave the ganglion and head toward the effector organ ( smooth muscle, glands, etc..).
No, ganglion cysts are not dangerous at all. (I have a ganglion cyst in my wrist).
The plural of ganglion is ganglia or ganglions.
