The four barrel usually gets a little better mileage because the primaries of a Rochester Quadrajet are a lot smaller than the Rochester 2-jet that was used at the time.
Once you open the secondaries of a quadrajet however, you will use significantly more fuel than a 2-jet.
if you got a carb rebuild kit most of them have the tolerances in them. if not there are maunals on that motor on eBay for that year motor
will a 4 barrel edelbrock fit both chevy or ford with 4 barrel manifolds

Probably not.
If its a 4-barrel carb, its 310hp. If it has the W-31 option it was 325hp. Both were considered "high compression" engines. There was a 2 barrel carb 350 cu in that had only 250 hp. Hope this helps.
Yes , but you also have to change the intake manifold
sounds like a chevy motor 250 cid. you can go original which was built by rochester, believe it or not a decent parts store could hook you up. if you want a bit more power tou can look at summit racing or jegs. holley, carter, edelbrock all make something for you motor you can even by a 4 barrel intake manifold and carb for about 50 more horse power , my suggestion by a nice holley 2 barrel carb and a carb adapter
