What is the good waist size for a 5foot 8inch man?

When measuring for upper body obesity you would measure from the largest / fattest area around the stomach.

For men, over 40 inches is considered to be obese, and for women over 35 inches is considered as obese.

The actual waist size, for clothing may vary from your measurement for determining health. For instance, my waist size for jeans is 36 inches; my stomach fat size is 42.5; thus I am considered upper body obese because of the extra 2.5 inches over the 40 inch limit. (I know!! I am working on trying to reduce it!!).

However, just like any other average or standard there are exceptions. For instance if one has a waist/stomach that is 46 inches wide, but have less than 8% body fat, then they are probably healthy. However this is not the North American norm. We are a fat people and the body is an incredible conservator of fat. It really, really wants to hang on to all of the fat stores it has. So it will burn muscle before it will burn fat. So it is important to combine physical activity, a well-balanced diet with any calorie reduction you use to lose weight. The slower you lose the weight, the harder it will be for your body to regain it later; as you building the healthy habits that promotes small, continual weight loss, coupled with the body getting used to shedding weight regularly.
