The Phantom Regiment......NOT! the Blue Devils, by far
The marching band we know today branches out from drum and bugle corps which began performing field shows around the 1970's. However marching band has been evolving for centuries. Starting with traveling musicians and then evolving into military practice, marcging band has been evolving into what it is today for a very long time.
Drum Corps don't traditionally march Trombones. At least not anymore. Trombone players are taught to play Baritones a lot of the time now because they're just easier to march with. It's like french horn players have to play a Mellophone since they can't march regular french horns. So, no, you won't see any major Drum Corps marching Trombones.
The drum kit keeps the time in the band, so the others can time their part in.
The number and strength of the various corps changed over time. The Union had 25 numbered corps, plus an ambulance corps, balloon, cavalry, and telegraph corps. Not all of these were in operations at the same time. Not all of the Confederate Army was divided into corps. The Army of Northern Virginia had four regular corps and one cavalry corps. The Army of Tennessee had 3 corps. The Confederates had about 13 small armies which might be considered as corps. Most of these armies did not operate throughout the war; instead they were broken off of other units and later merged again.
The drum solo is at 3 minutes 40 seconds into the song
Drum.
Retention time is the time of passing material through the volume of the drum with determined flowrate :Retention time=V/Qwhich Q : flowrateand V : Volumebut Detention time is the time that materials stay in drum
Sustain is the amount of time a drum rings or vibrates so that you can hear it. For example, a timpani drum has long sustain but a snare drum has a short one.
Most of the time, when the snare drum is tuned, it is tuned to the note "C".
Drums have been around since the time of our ancient ancestors. There were no records kept then so we can not tell you who invented the drum.
