The Maradeka is an alliance of 68 Bangsamoro civil society and freedom loving people organizations evolving in the 2000 as conglomeration of anti-war and peace advocacy groups. Amidst the over four decades of Bangsamoro people struggle in the southern Philippines for their right to self determination, a pro-democracy people alliance Maradeka emerged promoting non-violent political action as an alternative to armed struggle mounted by the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) during their secessionist campaign beginning in 1968 and sustained by its breakaway group Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MNLF) in war for self rule in Mindanao, the largest southern islands of the Philippines
