The JOHN DEERe tractor company takes its name from the company's founder, John Deere. Deere started his career as a blacksmith. Upon moving to the midwest, he learned that the iron plows midwestern farmers were using at the time weren't very effective in plowing the midwestern soil. He devoted his life to the continuing improvement of plow design. In 1868 he incorporated his business as Deere & Company, which is still its official name today. As far as the colors go, not even the John Deere company itself knows exactly why green and yellow became the colors of their company. According to their general student FAQ on their website, the earliest green and yellow design they have found is a Deere sulky plow from 1905.
John Deere tractors are green trimmed with yellow. These are the only colors they have ever been and I believe that's the way they will stay.
