Thus, the stressful stimuli causes the hypothalamus to secrete a releasing hormone to stimulate the anterior pituitary gland to release the tropic hormone ACTH. When the ACTH reaches the adrenal cortex via the bloodstream, it then will stimulate the ENDOCRINE CELLS too synthesize and secrete a family of steroids called corticosteroids.In different cases of negative feedback, the elevated levels of corticosteroids in the blood will supress the secretion of ACTH.
