454 big block chevies were not released for production until the 1970 model year . So the one in question is not original equipment and did not come in the car . If you take the casting numbers off the block , you (or someone else if you post them) can find out what that 454 came out of originally . That being said there's a pretty good chance the engine may have been modified from it's stock form.....does it have headers & aftermarket induction like holley , edelbrock , and or weiand ? Who knows what's been done internally . As you can see it's hard to guess the H.P. of this particular engine . Sorry .
70 nova's never had a 454 in them and the horsepower rating would have to be assessed from the year the engine is and if anything has been done to the engine other than being stock.
The 1978 Chevy 454 has a 240 horsepower and 360 foot-lbs. of torque. Many enthusiasts have built 454's that produce power outputs approaching 600 horsepower or more.
