Determining the horsepower from a known torque and engine rpm is possible due to the following formula:

(Torque x Engine speed) / 5,252 = Horsepower

The Kawasaki website lists the torque for the 2009 Kawasaki Nomad 1700 as 108 lb-ft @ 2,750rpms so considering this...

108 x 2750 / 5252 would give 56.5 horsepower.

As a comparison the Harley Davidson website lists the 2009 Harley Davidson Road King as having 96.6 lb-ft @ 3,500rpms so considering this...

96.6 x 3500 / 5252 would give 64.4 horsepower.

Personally I have never driven the Harley Davidson Road King, however I do own the 2009 Kawasaki Nomad 1700...fantastic motorcycle (would not trade it for anything...plan to have it a very long time) and I know the power coming from that engine is quite sufficient to haul myself and my girlfriend easily up a steep incline with plenty of reserve power to accelerate quickly without needing to downshift. I am about 190lbs and she is less... (no idea what she weighs and I am not asking her so I can post it here)...lol
