Originally, in Germany they were bred and used to hunt badgers. Since the modern Daschund is smaller and quite lighter than the original German equivalent, they have since been used to hunt mainly rabbit and fox, and track various game. Packs have been used to take down wild boar and even wolverines. They are genuine hunting dogs, and are excellent scent trackers.
