well, people who lived in these countries (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, etc.) they were christians or they worshipped dolls, trees, etc. (most of the times they were worshipping dolls as if they were their gods) So when the Arabs came to these places, they coverted the inhabitants and they spread the deen of islam through Morocco to Spain. The leader of the Berbers (original inhabitants of Morocco) named Tarik, he fought the christians in Spain and they were actually winning, but the muslims got defeated by Karel Martel in the battle of Poitiers. After that the muslims withdrew.
