I think it's very important to be kind, positive, and understanding when being honest, especially if the honesty is about some weakness or flaw. It's bad enough that someone is pointing out a flaw and weakness, but to do it in a negative manner is detrimental. It would make the person feel bad about themselves, and potentially not want to change as a result.
