Municipal government is important because it takes care of local issues. The federal government cannot take care of everything from national defense to trade regulations and still listen to the complaints of the residents of a town of 500 people who are having problems with their sewage. However, that is not to say that it is of no importance because it is, but it is just too hard for the federal government to do everything. That is why municipal governments are there to take care of those kinds of problems.

First, local government or municipal government is where you can go if you have a problem in your community. For example, your road might be poorly paved, and has been neglected for years. You can go to your town hall, or call them and raise your concern. Or if someone is vandalizing the local park, you can go to the town hall, and/or the police with that concern.

Second, the municipal governments handle important issues that the provincial and the federal government cannot pay much attention. Here are 4 examples of important issues the municipal governments look after in their geographical borders. 1. How to deal with the increased waste produced by growing populations. 2. What to do about public housing. 3. How to protect parklands. 4.How to provide services when tax revenues are unlikely to keep pace with what is needed. Of courses, there are many other important and non-important issues the local governments handle.
