What is the importance of pandas?

They are a tourist attraction for China since they only exist there and they also balance the ecosystem on earth. They also eat so much bamboo that there would never be too much, also it keeps the mountainous ecosystems balanced. Also, it help China's economy by tourism.

· 22 hours a day feeding on one plant species.

· Females on heat for 2 days a year but they are solitary so there is rarely a male around to impregnate.

· Therefore they do not reproduce efficiently

· Therefore they are not ecologically viable as they do nothing to keep the balance of the ecosystem.

· There are more species that do more for an ecosystem that need help.

· China pumps huge amounts of money into protecting the species but the habitat is dramatically reducing in size. Despite the WWF forming now 62 nature reserves in china which cater for only 70% of the population and only 52% of their needed range.

· The WWF is trying to connect more forest but why bother. The pandas do nothing and have no ecological value.

· This leads onto the fact that every 10 -120 years (depending on bamboo species) the plant has a mass die back meaning that the pandas have to move to a new location. Considering there is very little habitat left it is hard for them to do this.

· There is only one value for pandas and that is a tourist attraction. Nothing more.

· My personal opinion is a harsh one. Britain looks after British native species. Let China look after Chinese species. Unless the foreign species has ecological value to Britain and is necessary for the survival of British species.
