Rats hep humans in more ways than anyone can imagine.

In science rats have done more for medicine than one might give them credit for. Mice and rats have made advancements in medicine such as the new possible vaccine for Breast cancer, treatments for various diseases and invaluable research on many disorders from insomnia to Diabetes to alzheimer's.
Rats also provide companionship to people in the same ways that dogs and cats do. They're surprisingly excellent pets, better than any other rodent due to their long history of domestication, much longer than any other rodent.
I'm sure rats help humans in more ways, these are just the ways I'm aware of, do some research, I'm sure you'll find much more information about the helpfulness of rats.

Some of them are:
Rats make lovely companion animals, and are relatively easy to look after as long as you give them some free range time each day. They'll also eat your table scraps for you.
