Self-efficacy gives us a sense of whether or not we are competent and effective enough to tackle situations. It is the use of positive thinking to motivate oneself. Those with high self-efficacy are usually more persistent, experience less insomnia and depression, and lead healthier lives than those who have low self-efficacy. The concept is present in everyday life; it allows us to set our goals and fulfill them through determination and persistent. For instance, a student's current goal in school is to ace his physics course, a rather challenging class. A strong sense of self-efficacy would lead him to persist through the class, study hard, and relax. Low self-efficacy would lead him to panic and eventually drop the class. Through accomplishments, our self-efficacy grows and we become more confident in our abilities to achieve certain goals. However, if someone were to experience failure over and over, he/she will most likely quit.

All in all, this concept is important because it allows us to think internally about ourselves and our worth. It leads us to make decisions based on how we feel about ourselves. Self-efficacy is present in everyday life and people should focus on maintaining a high level of it to overcome life's obstacles.
