What is the difference between direct reduction and indirect reduction process of iron ore?

direct reduction: FeO + C = Fe + CO indirect reduction FeO + CO = Fe + CO2 I don't think that is what the terminology 'direct reduction' means in this context. For a start most directly reduced iron (DRI) is produced using CO and H2 produced from natural gas. I think the correct meaning is that 'direct reduction' is called direct because it directly produces iron (as a solid sponge because iron has a high melting point - see the 'bloomery process' for producing wrought iron), while the indirect process produces iron via 'pig iron' which is a high carbon alloy of iron (produced as a liquid because of the reduction in melting point caused by the carbon - see 'Osmond' process).

What is the difference between Sponge iron and pig iron and their application?

pig iron is intermediate product of smelting of iron ore sponge iron is product of direct reduction of iron ore in solid state

What is the chemical reaction that is used to separate iron from its ore?

Heat-reduction with Carbon (coale)

What did Henry Bessmer invent?

The method to make steel. The Bessemer method blows air into the hot iron ore to remove the impurities from the ore and this makes steel.

What is the process turns ore into useful metals?

It depends on the ore. ******** Refining. Well, we can taking iron ore for example. Iron ore is one of the most common minerals in the earth' crust. Main iron ores are magnetite, hematite, limonite, iron silicate ore, iron silicate mineral, etc. Iron ore beneficiation process usually consists of three stages: they are crushing raw iron ore to small particles, grinding iron ore particles to small powders and concentrating the available iron ore. At the tertiary process, the equipments are quite different from each other for the concentrating methods are different from each other. For example, iron ore producers can choose high-intensity magnetic separation; they can also utilize low-intensity magnetic separation method.

Is iron and iron ore the same?

no they are not the same because iron is a metal that is obtained from its ore called iron ore
