Since independence, the politics of Nigeria have influenced ethnicity by trying to allow all ethnic groups to have some say in how things are run. This decreases segregation among different ethnic groups.
Religion, politics, and ethnicity are tightly woven in Nigeria. The Muslim North and the Christian South co-exist uneasily, and often clash in Jos, the capital. There is political rivalry between the indigenes and the settlers.
