History and the origin of maithil brahmin?

Maithil Brahmins (Brāhamaṇas is the Sanskrit term), a community of highly cohesive, traditional Brahmins who form part of ancient Vedic Brahmins. Maithil Brahmins are a Hindu Brahmin community from the Mithila region of India and Nepal. They are one of the five Pancha-Gauda Brahmin communities.[1]In India, the Maithil Brahmins reside mainly in Bihar and the neighbouring states of Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and West Bengal.Like many other Hindu castes, the Maithil Brahmins trace their origin in the legends of Ramayana. During the Mughal period, they migrated westwards to the Braj region. In the 1960s and 1970s, the Maithil Brahmins became politically significant in Bihar. Binodanand Jha, Lalit Narayan Mishra, and Jagannath Mishraemerged as prominent political leaders of the community. Under the Chief Ministry of Jagannath Mishra, many Maithil Brahmins assumed important political positions in Bihar.

What were brahmins behavior towards others?

It depends on which part of India you are talking about and whom you are talking to. In north India there is little difference in how most of the Brahmin, kshatrias, vaishyas caste treats each other. The first 3 do not mix easily with Shudras, dalits and Muslims, though there has been much change in the last 25 years, especially in the cities. In other parts of India, especially in Tamil nadu they are accused of looking down on almost all other castes. One of the reasons associated to this syndrome is that Brahmins are generally fairer and refuse to inter marry even with other traditionally powerful ruling class castes because of their unique faith system. In many parts of south India, discrimination has been towards the brahmins at least for the last 30-40 years socially, educationally, politically and in popular cinema. In Tamil nadu the Brahmins are also victims of a sustained campaign by the so called Dravidian movement. More recently missionaries have been associating Hinduism to Brahmins to try and wean away converts from other caste especially in the southern states. Brahmins are generally not a united group and politically not very relevant in a democracy; this makes them easy punching bags for politicians from other castes, to blame for all evils in Hindu society. In the majority and more moderate public perception, Brahmins are generally perceived as thinking they are a step above others because of their position in Hindu society. This aloof holier than thou approach really bothers most social groups who are far more powerful politically but who themself sustain the caste system with their own bias. It is difficult to summarize this in simle terms, as it is a state of thinking and constantly morphs and moderates, it also has to be looked at historically. For ex Veda Vyasa the consolidator of the Vedic knowledge was born to a sage and fisherwomen, but is revered among Brahmins as a father figure.

What caste are Patel from?

Patels belong to the Upper caste Landlords of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. Next after the Brahmins....they are actually the most dominant upper caste in Gujarat. That is the reason why other castes of Gujarat like Jats,Gurjars,Brahmins,Rajputs(Darbar),Lohana sometimes adopt this surname to mingle with the real upper caste Patels. In caste if a Patel is O.B.C or S.C, he is certainly not a real Patel but is misusing the Upper Caste status of The Patels.
