Hygiene-

Hands are to be washed thoroughly with soap after using

the toilet, dealing with uncooked foods, particularly raw meat, poultry and fish. Changing nappies, blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing. Playing with animals. towels and dish cloths changed frequently and bins emptied and

cleaned regularly. Fridge and freezer temperatures should be regularly checked. Raw meat stored at the bottom of the fridge and all food must be thoroughly and safely defrosted. All food cooling on surfaces must be covered and re-heated food must be cooked to boiling point.

Outside safety-

Never leave children alone outside, Explain to children they must ask for help if toys roll into the street or road. Check the outdoor play area routinely. Remove rubbish, sharp branches, tools, lawn equipment, and animal feaces. Be sure all outdoor play areas are fenced, especially near a street, parking lot, pond, well, or railroad track. Surround electrical appliances in the play area, such as air conditioners, with fences so children cannot reach them. Remove gas grills from outdoor play areas

Keep gates closed at all times and install childproof latches

Lock storage sheds, barns, and garages. Require children to use helmets when using tricycles, bicycles, skateboards, roller skates, and ride-on toys. Reduce choking risks by having children remove helmets when playing on playground equipment. Use safety straps to secure children in prams/pushchairs.

Indoor safety-

Make sure all sharp and breakable items are out of children's reach, make sure all cleaning products, medications and other poisons are locked safely away from children. Have gates/barriers put in place to prevent children having accidents, like falling down the stairs, and keeping them out of the kitchen if there was food cooking. Make sure shelves and other tall pieces of furniture are secured to the wall properly. Cover up and sharp edges and corners to protect children. Protecting children's safety and preventing injuries is one of a child care provider's most important jobs. we must be attentive, choose materials carefully, supervise closely at all times, and teach children how to keep themselves safe.

First aid kits-

As a child care provider, we must know that accidents will happen. The best solution for an accident is to be prepared. When you are prepared and know how to respond in an emergency, you are confident and can respond in a timely manner. Injuries do happen despite the best prevention efforts. A well-stocked first aid kit is an absolute must in every child care program. Store items in a tightly sealed container within reach of adults, but out of the reach of children. Contents should be arranged in an orderly fashion and restocked after each use. First aid kits regular checkups. Mark your calendar to check your first aid kits at least every three months and replace supplies that have been used or have expired.
