According to the FBI Uniform crime report, there were 13,913 murders and manslaughters committed in TOTAL with ALL types of weapons. 9,433 murders and manlaughters committed with all types of firearms (2011- data not yet out for 2012) A murder every 2 minutes would be 262,800 murders. Someone is giving you false information. Ask why.
Approximately 2/3 or about 60 percent of all violence-related crimes- homicides, heavy assaults, etc involve Alcohol and other intoxicants. I said Crimes- not accidents.
People like to say things like, "There are hundreds every day!" but that isn't correct. According to the FBI, the total number of murders is between (approximately) 15,500 and just over 17,000 each year, but that is murders with all types of weapons. Using the highest figure, 17,000, that puts the total number of murders in the U.S. at just over 46 per day. It looks like the percentage of those murders committed with firearms is about 68%. However, for reference, it should be noted that only about 25-28% of aggravated assaults involve guns, so the fact that 68% of murders involve guns, doesn't mean that 68% of all crime involves guns.

Serial murders involve multiple killings that occur over a period of time, with a "cooling-off" period between each murder. In contrast, mass murders involve multiple killings that occur in a single location during a single event.
