remove and replace engine coolant temperature(ect)/chevy 2004 trailblazer
I had mine replaced and the cost of the thermostat and housing was $48.67 without the cost of labor.
Thermostat housing, and it is a housing, is about $35. The labor is about 1.5 hours as you must remove the alternator to get to the one bolt on the housing. If you have big arms the battery removal will help you get in there easier. We have complete instructions at our enthusiasts forum www.trailvoy.com

Hi. I replaced my thermostat twice - here is a word of caution: only use the thermostat from the Chevy dealership. I bought one from Autozone and it kept giving me the check engine light because the temp did not get high enough. I replaced it with the Chevy one and it worked perfectly from that point on - no more check engine light. As for the labor time, I'd suggest investing in a Chilton book that shows you how to do it. You have to remove the alternator in order to get to the thermostat (why did they put the thermostat on the bottom of the engine!?!?!) All in all it took me about 3 hours the first time and about 2 1/2 the second time - and I am just your average guy that doesn't mind getting his hands dirty in my garage.Hope that helps!
Just paid 450 in buffalo ny for an 03 chevy lt parts labor and taxes included

The thermostat on a 2009 Chevy Malibu with a 3.5L engine is located where the lower radiator hose connects to the engine. Labor manual states 1.0 hrs. Drain radiator. Remove plastic intake hose. Remove upper radiator hose. Remove lower radiator hose. Remove 2 10mm bolts from thermostat housing. Replace faulty thermostat. Reverse procedure for reinstall.
