∙ 14y agoThe northern landscape is mountainous in the interior with plateaus indented by river valleys, whereas the south features mostly rolling plains and a climate somewhat warmer and drier than in the north.

Portugal has a vast seafaring and colonial history, notably after 1500 as they found sailing routes to Asia by going east around the southern tip of Africa.
Portugal is a racially diverse nation with Portuguese in the North being primarily of Celtic and Germanic stock, while Portuguese to the south are primarily of homogeneous Mediterranean stock. It has some idyllic beaches as well, although none are within the Mediterranean proper.
