I did not see it, but I was told that Thomas Magnum died at the end, and it was at Tom Selleck's insistence so the character could not be revived for TV later. Yet, Hollywood script writers have any number of ways to go around that obstacle. If necessary, Magnum could be saved at the last minute, or presumed dead when he is really alive, or maybe his death was all just a dream......
Rubbish answer, you are quoting the end to season 7. It carried on to season 8 where he got his daughter back and rejoined the navy.
Tom selleck was the one who drove CBS to do one more season.
Resolutions (5.1.88): In the series' final episode, Higgins reveals he isn't Robin Masters, Rick is scheduled to get married, and Magnum, reunited with his daughter, rejoins the Navy.
