God's end-time movement of restoration and revival. History with an apocalyptic end, but then a great new beginning as well!

What is 'latter rain' as mentioned in the Bible?

"Latter rain" in the Bible literally refers to spring rains. "Former rain" refers to autumn rains. The terms latter and former rains are used in the King James Version of the Bible. Some newer translations, such as the New International Version, use the terms autumn (or fall) and spring rains. Much of the Bible was addressed initially to an audience living in a dry climate and heavily dependent upon agriculture. Abundant harvests require both former and latter rains. Thus, rain nearly always refers to a blessing. "Latter rain" may also have symbolic allusions depending upon the context of the passage that you are reading.

What is the spiritual meaning of rain?

The word rain in scripture, depending on context, is often used as a metaphor for revelation from God. For instance, in the Jewish Tanakh, the book of Joel prophecied: '...he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month.' [Joel 2:23.] This could be viewed as "the rain" which is to come being the advent of Christ; the "former rain" being the teachings of Moses; the "latter rain" would be the Revelation to come after Christ, as promised in so-called 'end time' or 'last days' (e.g., Isaiah, Revelation, etc.) prophecy.

What is the definition of latter?

Later; more recent; coming or happening after something else; -- opposed to former; as, the former and latter rain., Of two things, the one mentioned second., Recent; modern., Last; latest; final.

What does it mean when the Bible says the latter rain shall be greater than the former rain?

The Bible speaks of the "first or former" and "latter" rains, because each year is divided into "two growing seasons"... the early spring harvest [typically the smaller crop] and the late "fall harvest"... which is supposed to be the full, abundant harvest.I've not read where the Bible says that the "latter rain will be GREATER than the former rain," however. Ideally... if we "fear, love and serve" our Creator in accordance with His Word... He promises to give us the exact amount of rain we need to grow perfect crops, regardless of the season, that fill our storehouses to overflowing... and keep our bellies full. What a blessing. But, according to the Bible... men who should know better insist on ignoring the obvious cause of the starvation that persists in the world."...it shall come to pass, IF YE HEARKEN DILIGENTLY UNTO MY COMMANDMENTS which I command you this day, to love the Lord your God, and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul, that I WILL GIVE YOU THE RAIN OF YOUR LAND IN HIS DUE SEASON, the first rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil." (Deut.11:13-14)The "latter rain" doesn't need to be "greater" than the former rain... as we are witnessing today. In fact... some of the rain we get [former, latter and anywhere in between] is so great as to wash crops away. Our governments in their desire to play God, seek to control the earth's weather by limiting our "carbon footprint"... things like our breathing [the natural exhaling of carbon dioxide, as God designed it]. They fail to see the wisdom in God's Commandments. "Hearkening" unto them might offend someone. Which is truly the opposite of the intent of the Commandments: to love God with all your heart, and to love and respect others.According to the Bible... this failure of the nations to love and serve God results in some rather obvious weather pattern disruptions. Instead of the blessed former and latter rain in due season... we are plagued with no rain at all... or as many local weather stations label their reports "wicked weather," that's devastating to crops."...thou hast polluted the land with thy whoredoms and with thy wickedness. Therefore the showers have been withholden, and there hath been no latter rain..." (Jer.3:2-3)."...this people hath a revolting and a rebellious heart; they are revolted and gone. Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the Lord our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in his season: He reserveth unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest. Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good things from you." (Jer.5:23-25)What a blessing it would be to have something as simple as "the former rain and the latter rain." Each in its due season. But, the nations insist on ignoring God's Word. It's the reason for our turbulent upside-down weather... simply because we fear political incorrectness more than we fear our Creator. The Bible means just what it says: Fear God according to His Word, and the former and latter rains will yield the blessed well-being and satisfaction of full bellies. Reject Him... and it won't. It's called "cause and effect"... not "climate change."

What is Acid rain is an example of?

Acid rain is an example of atmospheric pollution, specifically sulphur dioxide, given off by the burning of fossil fuels, when released into the air , mixed with water vapor, and exposed to sunlight , it changes to sulphuric acid, which then falls as acid rain. Although there are other chemical pollutants released into the atmosphere , the latter is the main culprit.

What is the opposite of latter?

The opposite of latter is former.

Where in the Bible does it say that if the sun is shining and it is raining the shower will not be long?

Cannot find the scripture you are referring to but maybe this will be the interpretation of what you are referring to. In Palestine rain begins to fall late in October or early in November (The early rain), and continues to about the end of December. The rainfall between January and February is usually small, but increases again during march and April (The latter rain). Showers occur in May, and after this rain hardly ever falls until the end of September, though on the high ground the dews at night are often heavy.
