A Class C felony can result if the unpaid checks total more than $500 or if you had prior offenses of three or more bad check violations within the past five years which can result in a $5,000 fine and/or 5 years in jail plus a mandatory court fee of $500. Additional costs in the amount of $10 or 25%, whichever is greater of the total amount of restitution must also be imposed on defendants appearing in court for a bad check charge.
