The Principal, or Law of Non-contradiction is a philosophical axiom that states that if one proposition is true, then a contradictory proposition can not also be true. The law of non-contradiction is considered neither verifiable nor falsifiable, because any proof or disproof must use the law itself prior to reaching the conclusion. Some say that the Law of Non-contradiction is not a rule of logic, but merely a linguistic convention. According to this view, it is not a statement about the real world, but merely a rule that we follow in order to use language intelligibly. In spite of its apparent logic, the Law of Non-contradiction seems not to be universally accepted. The Bible contains many instances where one passage absolutely contradicts another passage, yet both passages are widely accepted to be literally true.
