A litter can be ONE kitten. A cat can have anywhere from 4-8 kittens or upwards of 10-12 kittens in a litter. Big Cats, lions, cheetahs, etc., only have one or two per litter.

What is typical behavior for a cat after she has kittens?

The cat will be very protective of her kittens. She just might not let you near them at first without a few clawings. So back up, let her have some space. Other times, the cat can be nicer, at least not clawing you to death, but she'll keep a close watch on her kids! But all mother Kitties will risk anything to save their kittens. Good luck with you're new kittens! (If you're cat is having kittens)

What is the proper name for a female cat?

A FEMALE cat, until she is spayed or births at least one (1) litter of kittens, is called a Molly by most veterinarians and animal experts. If she is spayed or has had at least one litter of kittens, she is called a Queen. I know this question is old but 🤷🏽‍♀️

You want your cat to have kittens at least once so what is the safest age to do this?

WHY do you want your cat to have kittens? Please don't! There are Thousands of cats and kittens euthanized each year in the USA because of overpopulation. It is a myth that cats are healthier or happier if they have had a litter. Please spay her. Even if you find homes for the 7 or so kittens she has that is 7 cats or kittens elsewhere that will not find home and will be killed.
