Antares is the 16th brightest star in all the heavens, the 11th brightest normally visible from most heavily populated regions of the Northern Hemisphere. It is a bright orangish star, the brightest star in the fishhook-shaped constellation of Scorpius (not "Scorpio"), and is due south at roughly midnight (standard time) on May 30.
