Basically, there are two types of Christian believers; called literalists and non-literalists. The literalists believe what the bible says is the exact and is exactly how the world was created. They believe earth was created in a 24 hour period of 6 days. And God then rested on the 7th day. They believe that the world was created: # Light, with Day and Night spoken into being # Sky spoken into being # Land, Sea, and Plants spoken into being # Sun, Moon, and Stars spoken into being # Animals of the sea and air spoken into being # Animals of the land, and Man in the image of God spoken into being # Rest taken by God at the end of a very creative week Ok, so that is that. Now the non-literalist take what the bible says as a poetic meaning and combine science and religion. Saying that God made the world, and science shows how. Thus, bible says why and science shows how! Hope this helps. Contact me: anonymous4u@live.co.uk

How does Darwin's theory go against the teaching of the fandementalists?

It doesn't. The teaching of the fundamentalists goes against modern science and the theory of evolution by natural selection is just the most prominent theory these people attack. As biblical literalist they can not accept the age of the earth, the formation of the universe and, evolutionarily, that man is the ancestor of what they would consider " lower organisms. "

How does a literalist look at the Bible?

Is the Church liberalist or literalist?

Roman Catholic AnswerI should think neither. Liberalist used refers to a political bent, and the Church has none. Literalist would usually refer to a reading of Sacred Scripture that only accepts the literal meaning. The Church definitely accepts the literal meaning, but it also accepts the spiritual, allegorical, moral, and anagogical senses of Sacred Scripture.

What is the difference between a literal reading of scripture and literalist readings of scripture?

For a Catholic, the literal reading of Scripture is one of the two senses of Scripture (along with the Spiritual Sense). The literal reading of Scripture takes into account who the human author was, in what era he lived in, and what form of writing he is using (is he using a parable or a story, or is he trying to present facts, or using an analogy or myth?) The literalist reading of Scripture has nothing whatsoever to do with the Church and is more associated with Fundamentalists. In other words, take the story of creation in the beginning of The Bible. God created the world in six days. Obviously, the author is not referring to "days" as we know them, because for the first "day" the earth, the sun, and the stars had not even been created yet. So we are obviously not talking about six twenty-four hour periods in which the sun circles the earth. The literalist would see "six days" and think "six twenty-four hour periods" without taking into account the fact that everything that establishes a "day" isn't even there yet. The literal reading of Scripture is trying to discern the truth that the Sacred author is trying to communicate. The literalist is taking the Bible as a scientific textbook, not a book about what God is trying to say.Literal or Literalist? Yes, Catholics DO take the Bible Literally! http://ryandunssj.blogspot.com/2010/01/literal-or-literalist.html

Belief in Islam and in prophet Muhammad. It is important to note, though, that most Muslims do not consider the Taliban to be "following Islam correctly" due to their harsh literalist nature.

Why was the eagle created?

Unless you take a rather literalist Biblical viewpoint, the eagle wasn't "created," it just evolved. If you do take the Fundamentalist view, I recommend you read the last couple of chapters of the book of Job.
