The Mandate of Heaven is a traditional Chinese concept concerning the legitimacy of rulers. The Mandate of Heaven belief demands that a high god, Tian, blesses the authority of a good, just ruler, but is displeased with a unjust ruler and withdraws the authority from him, leading to his overthrow and the transfer command to whatever new ruler would rule best. This lasted long in Chinese history; it was very popular among the people, since it offered a guide for good government and a rational overthrow of incompetent (not knowing/not good for job), unjust, bad rulers.
