The main difference between the two would have to be that a Trojan is sent out by a hacker to usually record your key strokes and find out what your interests are and then send you advertisements related to your interests with the hackers affiliate link embedded so the hacker makes money when you click on the links.
A virus is mainly out to do damage to your system, and reach out (in some cases) through your contact list and do damage to their computer as well.
