Depending on the different types of sugar, the nutrients, too, are several types. In general, however, these are mono- or dimers composed of several types of carbohydrates. Examples of such carbohydrates are glucose, fructose, and galactose. Table sugar for example is the result of a combination of the two monomers glucose and fructose. The scientific name for table sugar is sucrose.

There are three types of Macro-nutrients. These include; carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Carbohydrates can be divided into three categories; simple, complex, and fiber. Fiber is not nutritious but none the less an important part of the diet. Sugars fall into the simple carbohydrate category, not as healthy as the complex category (think oatmeal).

Many people think of vitamins and minerals when the think of nutrients, these are called micro-nutrients.

Sugar is a hydrocarbon. This means it is composed of Carbon, Hydrogen, and Oxygen, the only way to get nutrients from sugar would be to add(but not too much) it to your Wheaties in the morning.
